LL-37: An Antimicrobial Host-Defence Peptide Research Guide
What is LL-37?
LL-37 is the only member of the cathelicidin family of antimicrobial peptides found in humans, produced as the active fragment of a precursor protein. It is a host-defence peptide – part of the innate immune system’s first line of defence – and is studied for a dual role: direct antimicrobial activity and broader modulation of immune and tissue-repair signalling. Its breadth of reported activity is the basis of its research interest.
Studied mechanisms of action
In research models, LL-37 is investigated for its ability to disrupt microbial membranes directly, giving it broad antimicrobial activity against bacteria and other microbes. Beyond that, it is studied as an immunomodulatory peptide: it is reported to influence the recruitment and behaviour of immune cells, to affect inflammatory signalling, and to participate in angiogenesis and wound-repair pathways. Because it sits at the intersection of antimicrobial defence, immune regulation and tissue repair, LL-37 is used as a research tool to probe how these systems connect, and the balance between its protective and pro-inflammatory effects is an active area of study.
The state of the research
LL-37 has a substantial preclinical literature spanning microbiology, immunology and wound-healing models. Within the research-compound community its use is experimental and model-dependent, and its context-dependent behaviour – protective in some settings, pro-inflammatory in others – means investigators interpret results carefully against their model system. Results remain preclinical.
Handling & storage for research
Supplied as a lyophilised powder. Store sealed vials cold and protected from light; reconstitute with bacteriostatic water for laboratory handling and keep the reconstituted solution refrigerated, using it within the appropriate window. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles and vigorous agitation. Every Aura Labs batch ships with a third-party certificate of analysis confirming identity and purity above 99%.
Why researchers choose Aura Labs
Aura Labs supplies research peptides across Southeast Asia with third-party testing on every batch, a certificate of analysis available for each lot, and discreet, fast regional dispatch. Purity, accurate labelling and reproducible quality are the priorities researchers rely on for consistent results.
